A big shout to our good friend Bill K, who has an uncanny knack for unearthing hidden gems and in that manner introduced us to Celestium. Bill discovered the "Rising" CD from 1997, a relic from his many secret record dwellings in the West Country of England. Neil Steveson, the man behind Celestium, has been crafting tracks for over three decades, staying largely under the radar with self releases. "Of the Planet" from his 2004 Rainforest LP takes us on a dystopian journey deep beyond the forest edge, with nods to primitive amazonian soundscapes where frogs and birds dance percussive, and synth lines nod nostalgia to Kraftwerk dripped in Goa trance pulsations, yet remaining very grounded in the ominous drear of the UK. We love Neil’s music so much we had to put two of his pieces on the comp.
